Hi everyone!
Do you want to know how many English words you know? Well today I have something fun to share with you! It is a multiple choice quiz which will give you an estimate of the size of your English vocabulary.
On average, a university educated native speaker can understand 20,000 words and leaners of English as a Second Language who wish to achieve a high score in the IELTS, TOEFL or GMAT need a knowledge of at least 10,000 words.
So, how can you find out if you know more or less than 10,000 words (or if your word bank is closer to 20,000 words)? Simply answer 50 multiple choice questions, which on average will take 15 minutes to complete, and you will have a better idea of how many words you know (or of how many words you still need to learn!)
Here are some examples of the types of questions you will be asked:

As you can see, your job is to replace the underlined word with the most appropriate word from the four given examples. Sound easy? Well don’t be too confident, because it is a little harder than it appears – just take your time and do your best (and please don’t use a dictionary to help you!)
After taking the quiz, you will receive an analysis of your test results as well as learning strategies to help you further expand your knowledge of vocabulary.

This is well worth a try – have fun with it – and let me know what your results are!
