ESL Robot – English Learning Of The Future?

ESL Robot – English Learning Of The Future?

Hi everyone!
Today I would like to share something fun with you. Meet Alice, the ESL Robot! If you need a break from your regular study routine and want to practise your writing in a fun new way, then give Alice a try.

Alice is an interactive cyber English speaker who will respond to your questions in both spoken and written form. She is similar to ‘Suri’ for those of you who have an iPhone, but with Alice you can put a face to the name. Basically if you write a question, Alice will answer. If you write a statement, Alice will respond, it’s as easy as that! Here she is:

Are you interested? Get to know Alice a little more by visiting the website below (type in anything you want, she will respond, don’t be alarmed if you hear her speak, she will say exactly what she types). Here is the website: http://eflclassroom.com/bots/ebot2.html

I would recommend visiting this website just for fun – why not type in some funny questions to see how Alice will respond! Also, if you have nobody to practise your English with, this is a fun interactive way to practise your writing skills. Have a try, you may make a new friend.

Here is a screenshot of the website after I asked Alice a few questions:

So, as you can see, you type in a question, and Alice answers – simple! You also have the option to choose pre-selected questions and answers from the drop-down lists – but I think it is a lot more fun and a lot more unpredictable if you just type in whatever pops into your head (nothing rude please!) to see how the conversation will develop.

Sound like fun? Here are some links to similar websites:
ELBOT the Robot is not as advanced as Alice, but he really looks like a robot!
Practise English with MIKE is a website especially for ESL practise
DAVE ESL Bot is similar to Alice, but he has a strong American accent
SANTA BOT is the same concept, but with Santa Clause – tell him what you want for Christmas!

The question now is: is this the future way of learning and practising English? Let me know what you think! The most important thing is to just have fun with these websites and to not take them too seriously. Enjoy!
:) Nicole
